Being a Muslim in Milwaukee Rotary
Janan Najeeb
Janan Najeeb is a founding member and the current president of the Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition. She also founded the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance, Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival, Wisconsin Muslim Journal, and Our Peaceful Home, the first culturally specific, family-strengthening, and domestic violence project, with special expertise serving the Muslim community.
An interfaith leader, Janan chairs the Committee for Interfaith Understanding of the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee and is the first Muslim, the first non-clergy and only the second woman to lead the Milwaukee Innercity Congregations Religious Leaders Caucus in it's 35-year history. A highly sought-after speaker, Janan has spoken all over Wisconsin and at many national conferences and events. Janan serves on numerous community boards including Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Historical Society, Marcus Performing Arts Center, and Rotary Club of Milwaukee. She has co-chaired the citywide annual Dr. MLK celebration for 15 years and she is a commissioner with the Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention.
Janan is the recipient of countless awards including the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies Dick Ringler Distinguished Peace Educator Award, International Museum of Muslim Cultures Excellence Award, Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee Award for Social Justice and Activism, and Rotary Person of the Year Award.
Janan is married to Dr. Waleed Najeeb and has five adult children, the youngest is 20.
