Our History
As the first club to spin-off from the main Charlotte club in 1948, the Dilworth South End Rotary Club has a rich, 70+ year history of involvement in the Dilworth Community.
UNC Charlotte
Our first president,
W. A. Kennedy demonstrated leadership in the Dilworth community by initiating and championing the conversion of the former two-year Charlotte College to its current four-year status as UNC Charlotte.
Little League Baseball Diamond
The Dilworth Little League Diamond was the direct result of another Rotarian's efforts initiated in 1951.
Latta Park Garden
We established the community garden at Latta Park, which is now maintained by the park.
Global Projects
We have participated in numerous global projects focusing on education, nutrition, water and sanitation, and entrepreneurship in Bolivia, Honduras, Ecuador, and Guatamala.
UNC Scholarships
We renewed our relationship with UNC Charlotte by instituting an annual $1,000 scholarship for students interested in becoming first responders. Our initial scholarship was awarded to a female first-generation student.
Children and Health
We provided two remote-controlled mobile cars to Levine Children's Hospital which allow child-patients to ride from their rooms to operating rooms, reducing stress for them and their parents.
